It has come to our attention that four midwives are being investigated by the Department of Public Health and charged with violations of Connecticut law under statutes, which have nothing to do with the practice of midwifery. Evidence clearly shows that planned homebirth with independent midwives is a safe and healthy option for birthing families. We wish to be able to continue to exercise our right to choose the midwifery model of care. In addition, we are concerned that our taxpayer dollars are being spent in such a fiscally irresponsible manner. Concerns for the health and safety of birthing families in Connecticut should be addressed through legislation, which would allow parents the choice of independent midwives as caregivers. We respectfully ask that you investigate this situation and help to bring it to a halt.
